Kochi, Kerala to host 2008 SIGTUR Congress.
The Centre of Indian Trade Unions will be hosting Congress on 19-23 April 2008.
SIGTUR Co-ordinator, Rob Lambert advises that delegates will confront a diverse range of challenges over the days of the congress. Issues under examination include:

The rapid growth of Multi-national corporations and impact on the world economy

Privatisation's impact on national economies

The role of the Public Sector in building a self-reliant nation-state economy.

Addressing the problems of migrant workers

Methods of organising the informal sector, casual , contract and out-sourced workers

Examining the impacts upon working women under imperialist globalisation

and importantly, finding ways of strengthening international unity and solidarity of the Trade Union Movement through SIGTUR.

SIGTUR congresses are always lively and participative events. There will be lots of discussion and argument, there will be agreement and disagreement, but work will be done and progress will be made. SIGTUR participants represent the working class from the economic south and this years congress in South Asia brings together worker representatives from countries in Asia, South Asia, Africa, Australia and Latin America.
